Memorial Prayers for the Departed embody the enduring bond of Christian love which transcends earthly death. In the Orthodox prayer book, prayers for the deceased petition God for remission of sins and peaceful repose in the Heavenly Kingdom.
Daily Prayer for the Repose of the Departed
Give rest, O Lord, to the souls of Thy departed servants: my parents, relatives, benefactors (names), and all Orthodox Christians; forgive them all sins voluntary and involuntary, and grant them the Kingdom of Heaven.
With the saints give rest, O Christ, to the souls of Thy servants, where there is neither sickness, nor sorrow, nor sighing, but life everlasting.
Remember also, O Lord, all fallen defenders who laid down their lives for truth, people, and homeland, and make their memory eternal before Thy throne. Amen.
