Rejoice, O Spiridon, wondrous wonderworker.
Icos 1
Adorned from youth with all virtues, you, O Saint Spiridon, have truly shown yourself to be a fellow of Christ, imitating the life of the Angel. We, beholding you, a heavenly man and earthly Angel, humbly cry out to you with reverence:
Rejoice, O one who contemplates the mysteries of the Most Holy Trinity;
Rejoice, O one who is enriched with the resplendent illumination of the Spirit.
Rejoice, O radiant luminary;
Rejoice, O one whose mind is enlightened by unshakeable steadfastness.
Rejoice, O one who has loved true simplicity and silence from youth;
Rejoice, O ornament of chastity.
Rejoice, O boundless fountain of love;
Rejoice, O one who has imitated the hospitality of Abraham.
Rejoice, O one who has opened the doors of your home to all with love;
Rejoice, O intercessor for the poor.
Rejoice, O one before whom people tremble with reverence;
Rejoice, O one who is the dwelling place of the Most Holy Spirit.
Rejoice, O Spiridon, wondrous wonderworker.
Condak 2
Seeing the island of Cyprus and all the Christian lands where your incorrupt relics are, O Saint Spiridon, from which abundant healings flow, we rejoice; and we, honoring you as a mighty source of grace, sent from above to us, cry out to the Supreme Ruler of heavenly and earthly blessings:
Alleluia
Icos 2
Having the mind of God, if He is the shepherd of mute sheep, you were chosen by the will of the Shepherd-Protector Christ to be a shepherd of speaking sheep. The faithful, understanding you as a good shepherd, who ceaselessly takes care of his flock, sing:
Rejoice, O archpastor of God the Most High, who has received abundantly the divine grace in your ordination;
Rejoice, O radiant luminary, burning and shining.
Rejoice, O faithful steward in the vineyard of Christ;
Rejoice, O shepherd, who has nurtured your flock on the pasture of faith and piety.
Rejoice, O one who illuminates the world with the rays of your virtues;
Rejoice, O one who offers the divine sacrifice on the throne of Christ.
Rejoice, O hierarch, adorned with the understanding of Orthodoxy;
Rejoice, O one who is filled with the apostolic teaching, and who waters the faithful with streams of saving doctrine.
Rejoice, O one who has enlightened the wise;
Rejoice, O one who has renewed the hearts of the simple.
Rejoice, O glory of the Orthodox and unshakeable foundation of the Church;
Rejoice, O ornament of the fathers, glory and praise of the reverent priests.
Rejoice, O Spiridon, wondrous wonderworker.
Condak 3
By the power of the Most High, who has enlightened you, O Saint Spiridon, you have shown yourself to be wise and, having taken hold of the clay of human nature, you have clearly explained the Trinity to all; therefore, the false philosophers, who had gathered at the Council, were terrified, while the faithful, in awe of the incomprehensible God, who had enlightened you for salvation, cried out to Him:
Alleluia
Icos 3
All the fathers of the Council, who had you in their thoughts, simple and unlearned in the teachings of the books, beseeched you, O Father Spiridon, not to engage in disputes with those who live by the letter, thinking themselves wise. You, O holy hierarch, being inflamed with zeal for God, believing that the preaching of Christ is not in the cleverness of human words, but in the manifestation of the Spirit and power, wisely refuted the proud one and led him onto the path of truth. All who saw this wonder cried out:
Rejoice, O radiant one of Orthodox wisdom;
Rejoice, for you have confounded those who were thought to be wise by their words.
Rejoice, O fountain of abundance, overflowing with grace;
Rejoice, O unshakeable pillar, firmly upholding those who stand in faith.
Rejoice, O one who darkens the destructive heresy;
Rejoice, for through you, the madness has been overthrown.
Rejoice, for you have preached the Holy Trinity with your hands, as if with clay;
Rejoice, for you have brought forth fire and water from the earth to establish the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.
Rejoice, for you have enlightened people to glorify the Word, who is truly of one essence with the Eternal Father;
Rejoice, for you have struck the head of the serpent, the pernicious Arian heresy.
Rejoice, for the evil of malice has been vanquished by you;
Rejoice, for you have turned the erring wise man to the true faith.
Rejoice, O wondrous and miraculous healer, O Spiridon.
Condak 4
Living in poverty and humility, you were a nourisher and helper to the poor and the needy, and, out of love for the poor, you transformed the serpent into gold and gave it to him who asked for your help. Marveling at this wonder, we give thanks to God:
Alleluia
Icos 4
It has been heard by all and everywhere that Saint Spiridon is truly a dwelling place of the Holy Trinity: for the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit have dwelt within him. Therefore, you have preached to all Christians, through your words and deeds, the incarnate, true God, crying out:
Rejoice, O mystic of the divine words;
Rejoice, for you have made known the divine economy for the salvation of the world.
Rejoice, for you have taught not to test what is beyond human reason and human wisdom;
Rejoice, for you have revealed the working power of God, which is incomprehensible.
Rejoice, for you have proclaimed the very God with your lips;
Rejoice, for all have listened to you with joy.
Rejoice, for you have dispelled the darkness of idolatry;
Rejoice, for you have led many to the true faith.
Rejoice, for you have struck the heads of the invisible serpents;
Rejoice, for through you, the Christian faith is glorified.
Rejoice, for you enlighten all who glorify you;
Rejoice, for you are a champion of Christian faith and Orthodoxy.
Rejoice, O wondrous and miraculous healer, O Spiridon.
Condak 5Thou wast filled with the Divine Spirit, O holy Spiridon, on account of thy virtuous life; for thou wert gentle, merciful, pure of heart, patient, unremembering of wrongs, a lover of strangers, and therefore the Creator and the All-Glorious One revealed thee in wonders. We, glorifying God, who glorified thee, cry out to Him:
Alleluia
Icos 5
We behold thee, O Spiridon, as an equal of the angels, a great wonderworker. Once, the land suffered greatly from drought and famine; there was a plague and many people perished. But through thy prayers, O holy one, rain descended from heaven to the earth; and the people, delivered from their affliction, gave thanks and cried out:
Rejoice, O great prophet, who art like unto Elijah;
Rejoice, O rain, that bringest relief from famine and diseases, and didst descend at the right time.
Rejoice, O one who, through thy prayers, didst shut up the heavens;
Rejoice, O one who didst punish the merciless merchant by taking away his wealth.
Rejoice, O one who didst abundantly bestow food on those who asked;
Rejoice, O one who didst manifest the loving-kindness of God towards men.
Rejoice, O one who dost take away the infirmities of the infirm;
Rejoice, O blessed one, who art a helper to men.
Rejoice, O one who dost give health to the sick;
Rejoice, O one whom demons tremble before.
Rejoice, O fountain of countless wonders;
Rejoice, O wondrous wonderworker, Spiridon.
Condak 6
The veil of the Old Testament tabernacle covered the ark, the manna, and the tablets. And thy coffin, O holy Spiridon, is like the ark, thy holy relics are like the manna, and thy heart, O blessed one, is like the tablets of the Divine Grace, on which is written the hymn:
Alleluia
Icos 6
The people of Cyprus once suffered from the Lord’s curse of barrenness, for their multitude of sins. But when a certain farmer, known to thee, O holy one, came to thee for help, thou didst give him gold; and when the calamity passed, the farmer returned the gold. And lo! the gold became a serpent. Glorifying God, who is wondrous in His saints, we cry out:
Rejoice, O one who, like Moses, didst miraculously change the rod into a serpent;
Rejoice, O merciful shepherd, who dost deliver thy flock from spiritual afflictions.
Rejoice, O one who dost abundantly bestow all blessings;
Rejoice, O one who, like Elijah, dost feed the poor.
Rejoice, O one who dost convert the merciless to mercy;
Rejoice, O example of love for men, who dost live in the world.
Rejoice, O comforter of the afflicted and the unafflicted;
Rejoice, O tree that dost overshadow the city and the land.
Rejoice, O glory and praise of the Kerkyrians;
Rejoice, O one who, by the grace of God, dost rule over rain and drought, heat and cold.
Rejoice, O one who dost change the laws of the earth by thy prayers;
Rejoice, O one who dost foresee the future as if it were the present.
Rejoice, O wondrous wonderworker, Spiridon.
Condak 7
You have appeared before the Lord on behalf of all, O holy Hierarch Spiridon; therefore, we flee to your protection, seeking salvation, for we have you as our helper in all necessities, in times of famine, deadly diseases, and in every hour of tribulation and temptation. Therefore, we give thanks to God:
Alleluia
Icos 7
We behold a new and wondrous miracle: when you, O Father, journeyed to deliver the innocent man condemned to death, a raging torrent barred your path; yet you commanded him to stand still and, invoking the name of the Almighty God, you yourself crossed over the river as if on dry land. The fame of this miracle has spread far and wide, and all have glorified God, crying out to you:
Rejoice, for you have sometimes been like Joshua, who crossed the Jordan River on dry land;
Rejoice, for you have silenced the raging torrent with the sound of your voice.
Rejoice, for you have undertaken a difficult journey, moved by compassion;
Rejoice, for you have destroyed calumny and freed the innocent man from prison and the unjust death that threatened him.
Rejoice, for you are a benefactor of life, hastening to the aid of the faithful;
Rejoice, for you are the defender of the innocent.
Rejoice, for you are the one who has changed the course of the natural order of the waters;
Rejoice, for you have instructed the judge and saved the man from death.
Rejoice, for you are the true correction of souls;
Rejoice, for you are a wondrous power, holding back the waters.
Rejoice, for you are the one who soothes the hearts of those who come to you;
Rejoice, for you are the imitator of Abraham’s humanity.
Rejoice, O Spiridon, wondrous worker of miracles.
Condak 8
You were a stranger and a sojourner on earth, just like all other men. However, the All-knowing God revealed you, O holy Hierarch Spiridon, from the womb of your mother, for you drove out demons, healed every disease and wound, and beheld the thoughts of men; therefore, you have been shown to be wondrous in the saints. We, sending up our prayer to the Benefactor of all, God, cry out to Him:
Alleluia
Icos 8
The whole world has been shaken with fear, when it heard that death, at your command, has returned the dead to their tombs, and it cried out:
Rejoice, for you have summoned your deceased daughter to reveal to her the treasure entrusted to her, calling her back to life;
Rejoice, for you have comforted the sorrowful widow, who had invested her gold in safekeeping, by restoring it to her.
Rejoice, for you have raised the dead child from the dead;
Rejoice, for you have revived his mother, who had suddenly died of joy.
Rejoice, for you have imitated Elijah, who, by his prayers, restored life to the son of the widow of Sarepta;
Rejoice, for you have followed the example of Elisha, who raised the dead child from death.
Rejoice, for you are a shepherd, who loves men with a pure heart;
Rejoice, for you are the one who has washed away the tears of the adulterous woman with your feet, and has forgiven her sins in the name of God.
Rejoice, for you have acquired the holy zeal of the chief Apostle;
Rejoice, for you have been an unrepentant sinner, who has died in a severe illness, at your word.
Rejoice, for you have obtained the fruitfulness of the earth through your prayers;
Rejoice, for you
Condak 9
You were enlightened by the divine Spirit, O holy Spiridon, and possessed the spirit of wisdom, for with wise words you subdued the foolish and established faith among the fathers; the spirit of understanding, for you illuminated the darkened minds; the spirit of the fear of God, for you cleansed the soul by virtuous deeds. Therefore, before the throne of the Most High, with a host of angels, you hymn Him:
Alleluia
Icos 9
Receiving the staff of the shepherd of the flock of words from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Shepherd and Chief Pastor, you, O holy Spiridon, did not change your life: you were not greedy, gentle, and endured all things for love, and you did not despise the foolishness of the flock of dumb sheep. All these things stir us to praise God and to call upon you:
Rejoice, despising the glory of this world as vain;
rejoice, having received a great reward in heaven.
Rejoice, having put the glory of this world in the dust;
rejoice, vessel of heavenly blessings.
Rejoice, most holy patron of the Cypriots;
rejoice, for God bound the wolves that devour your flock with invisible chains.
Rejoice, teacher of paternal counsel;
rejoice, for by your mercy you gave the sheep a restful night without sleep.
Rejoice, by your rebuke, you have reproved the obstinacy of the goat, as if it were a wise man, who had hidden its value;
rejoice, for you have brought the treasure of your silver to repentance.
Rejoice, for you have healed him of the passion of avarice by your exhortation;
Rejoice, wondrous miracle-worker Spiridon.
Condak 10
As you saved the souls of the flock entrusted to you by God, O holy Spiridon, by the will of God, you were called to reveal your glory, and even more the glory of the True God, and to go to other countries, so that everywhere the Name of God may be glorified, crying out:
Alleluia
Icos 10
Swift helper and defender in all needs and sorrows, O holy Spiridon, by the command of the king, just as the other pastors, you came to the city of Antioch, where King Constantine was afflicted with illness; the holy bishop touched his head and healed him. Marveling at this wonder, we cry out to you:
Rejoice, who in a dream vision appeared to the king as a healer angel;
rejoice, for you undertook the difficult path of love for God even in old age.
Rejoice, for you, as a servant of the king, struck by the lash, according to the command of the Savior, provided another;
rejoice, pillar of humility.
Rejoice, for by your prayers, you gave the king health, weeping and asking;
rejoice, for by your humility, you taught the king and changed his unmerciful nature.
Rejoice, for you taught the king by your piety and mercy;
rejoice, for you, despising earthly treasures, rejected the king’s gold.
Rejoice, for you, by your teaching, turned your disciple Trifillius away from his attachment to earthly goods and made him a vessel of God’s grace;
rejoice, for when you came to Alexandria, idols fell.
Rejoice, to whom even demons are subject;
rejoice, for you turned many away from idolatry.
Rejoice, wondrous miracle-worker Spiridon.
Condak 11
When the angelic hymn was sung, O holy Hieromartyr Spiridon, as you offered your evening prayers in the temple, none were present to assist you. The inhabitants of the city, however, upon hearing the wondrous hymn, entered the temple and, seeing no one, sang with the heavenly hosts:
Alleluia
Icos 11
You were a shining sun, a confidant of the angels on earth, O holy Hieromartyr Spiridon; having surrendered your spirit to the hands of God, you have been translated to the heavenly realm, praying for peace before the throne of the Lord. We, who dwell on earth, cry out to you:
Rejoice, for you, even in your earthly life, were assisted by the angels;
rejoice, having heard the psalmody of the archangels.
Rejoice, visible image of our transfiguration;
rejoice; for, though there was no oil in the temple, God filled you with an abundance of lamps.
Rejoice, lamp of divine radiance;
rejoice, vessel of God’s grace, overflowing with oil, filling your soul.
Rejoice, unfathomable fountain, ceaselessly pouring forth streams of grace;
rejoice, of whom the angels are amazed.
Rejoice, who in the temple punished the disobedient deacon;
rejoice, who silenced the boastful and deprived him of voice and tongue.
Rejoice, for in the heat of the day, a sudden rain, sent from above, cooled your sacred head;
rejoice, who, in the sign of your approaching departure, foresaw it.
Rejoice, O Spiridon, wondrous miracle-worker.
Condak 12
You were a shelter and refuge for all who came to you in faith, O holy Hieromartyr Spiridon, even in your earthly life, and after your repose, you did not abandon us, the poor. May God, who conquers the order of creation, preserve your holy relics incorrupt, as a strengthening of the Orthodox faith and piety, a sign of immortality, which we, in hymning, cry out:
Alleluia
Icos 12
We hymn you, O holy Hieromartyr Spiridon, as a wonderworker, who has amazed the world with miracles flowing from your holy relics. For all who come with faith and venerate them receive all the things they ask. And we, who have given you strength, who have crowned you with the crown of incorruption, and who have acted through you, O God, hymn you, crying out:
Rejoice, who, in a time of famine, appeared as a shipowner and commanded food to be brought;
rejoice, who, with faith, approached your holy relics and granted sight to the blind.
Rejoice, who healed the boy from an incurable disease;
rejoice, who cast out the demon from the woman and made her healthy.
Rejoice, who was appointed governor of Corcyra;
rejoice, who drove out the impious Agarians and sank their ships in the depths.
Rejoice, who was seen surrounded by a host of angels, holding a sword in their hand and leading the enemies into trembling;
rejoice, who built a church for yourself, to perform liturgy on holy bread, O governor who was raised up.
Rejoice, who struck down the Latin governor with a cruel death;
rejoice, who burned his image in Venice with lightning.
Rejoice, who humiliated the apostasy and false wisdom of the West;
rejoice, who established the one, Orthodox faith as the true and saving faith for humanity.
Rejoice, O Spiridon, wondrous miracle-worker.
