Morning Prayers (Complete Orthodox Order) — the daily prayer rule of Orthodox Christians recited upon waking. This prayer book provides the spiritual foundation for dedicating the day to God, thanking Him for His protection through the night, and seeking His divine grace for the journey ahead.
Introductory Prayers
Having risen from sleep, stand reverently before the holy icons, sign yourself with the Cross, and say:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, Who art everywhere and fillest all things, Treasury of blessings and Giver of life: come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O Good One.
The Trisagion Prayers
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Three times, with the sign of the Cross and prostrations).
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, wash away our sins. O Master, pardon our transgressions. O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for Thy name’s sake.
Lord, have mercy. (Three times). Glory to the Father… now and ever…
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
The Creed (The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Symbol of Faith)
I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not made, of one essence with the Father, through Whom all things were made.
Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man.
And was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried.
And rose on the third day according to the Scriptures.
And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father.
And He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets.
In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the remission of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead.
And the life of the age to come. Amen.
Prayer to the Guardian Angel
O holy Angel, companion of my wretched soul and impassioned life, forsake me not, a sinner, nor depart from me for my intemperance. Give no place to the evil demon to overcome me through the tyranny of this mortal body. Strengthen my weak hand and direct me in the way of salvation. Yea, holy Angel of God, guardian and protector of my soul and body, forgive me all things wherein I have offended thee all the days of my life; and shield me on this present day, guarding me against every device of the enemy, that I may not anger God by any sin; and pray to the Lord on my behalf, that He may confirm me in His fear and show me to be a worthy servant of His goodness. Amen.
