Prayer before the exam: how to overcome anxiety, calm the mind and trust God

calendar_month

Exams and important tests are a serious emotional burden for every student, pupil and their parents. Anxiety before the exam can cloud the mind, preventing you from showing your real level of knowledge. However, Christian spiritual practice teaches us that prayer can calm anxiety, clear the mind and set it up for success.

Secret prayer for wisdom and peace

At the moment when the fear of the exam overwhelms the heart, the Savior Jesus Christ calls us to turn to inner silence. In The Gospel of Matthew 6:6 He teaches: “And you, when you pray, go into your closet, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret.”

Before walking into the audience, take a moment of silence to close the door of your mind to panic and anxiety. This is your time for personal communication with God and Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit, if you listen to His still small voice, will bring peace and clarity of thought. Remember that the Creator knows about all your efforts and needs in advance: “For your Father knows what you need before you ask Him” (Gospel of Matthew 6:8). Prayer adjusts your mind to calmly discover all acquired knowledge.

Start your prayer rule with the words of the Lord – Our Father.

Biblical lessons of faith: how God gives wisdom and knowledge

The Apostle James emphasizes the importance of prayer with living faith that overcomes doubts: “But let him ask in faith, without doubting” (Epistle of James 1:6-7). Our faith is strengthened through daily Bible reading and spiritual life. In the Holy Scriptures we find amazing examples of how God gave wisdom to those who trusted Him.

Solomon’s prayer for wisdom

When the young king Solomon led the people of Israel, he realized the complexity of his service. The Lord appeared to him in a dream and offered: “Ask for what will be given to you.” Solomon did not ask for wealth, long life, or victory over enemies. He asked: “Give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people and to distinguish between good and evil” (First Book of Kings, Chapter 3). God was pleased with this request, and He gave Solomon an understanding and wisdom greater than anyone on earth. This story teaches us that first of all we should ask God for wisdom and purity of mind.

Daniel and his friends in captivity

The Book of the prophet Daniel describes the story of four young men – Daniel, Ananias, Misael and Azariah – who were in captivity in Babylon. They decided to remain faithful to the commandments of God and daily built a relationship with the Creator. And the Lord blessed them: “And God gave these four young men knowledge and understanding in every book and wisdom” (Daniel 1:17). When the king tested them, it turned out that they were ten times wiser than all the wise men of the kingdom. This example shows that faithfulness to God and reliance on His strength bring the best intellectual results.

Practice of hesychasm and the “Diary of Love”

In hesychasm, great importance is attached to the purity and clarity of the mind, freed from unnecessary images and fears. During the exam, when you receive a ticket or test, take a short pause, calm your breathing and repeat in your mind: Lord Jesus Christ, enlighten my mind.

God loves each of us infinitely. In Padre Pio’s book “The Diary of Love”, the Lord reminds us that His love accompanies us in every matter. Padre Pio taught: “Do your work honestly and conscientiously, and entrust the result to God.” Don’t worry ahead of time, because the Father’s Love is already taking care of your success.”.

Use the power of imagination and faith (which Neville Goddard wrote about): imagine the moment when you have already passed the exam, feel joy, relief and gratitude. Hold this state of peace and the agitation will disappear, making room for your knowledge.

Prayer before the exam (exam)

The Lord’s Prayer

Turn to God with a prayer Our Father:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, let Thy kingdom come, let Thy will be done, both in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive our trespassers, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Thine is the kingdom, and power, and glory, forever. Amen.

Prayer for help in studying and passing the exam

Lord Jesus Christ, Source of wisdom and light! Bless my mind and my memory before this exam. Free my heart from fear and anxiety, grant me clarity of thought and focus. Help me remember everything I learned at the right time and answer correctly and confidently. Let Your grace be with me, and let Your will be for everything. Amen.

Let us pray together, because the strength is in the community: “For where two or three are gathered in My Name, there I am in the midst of them” (Gospel of Matthew 18:20).
