St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is one of the most beloved saints in the entire Christian world. He is known as a quick helper in trouble, a patron of travelers, orphans, the poor and the sick. People turn to St. Nicholas in moments of trouble, asking for a miracle and divine intervention in life’s circumstances. However, every prayer to the saint must be based on firm biblical faith and trust in the Lord.

Spiritual foundations of prayer: a secret appearance before the Heavenly Father

Saint Nicholas became famous for his secret charity, trying not to show his charity to others. This is a direct fulfillment of the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Gospel of Matthew 6:6 Christ teaches: “And you, when you pray, go into your closet, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret.”

Secret prayer is a time of your personal union with God and Jesus Christ. When you close the door of your room to outside bustle, you open your soul to the Holy Spirit, who comforts and gives peace. Remember that the Creator knows your every need beforehand: “For your Father knows what you need before you ask Him” (Gospel of Matthew 6:8). Prayer is not reminding God about problems, but trusting in His almighty love.

Biblical examples of faith: how love and generosity work miracles

The Apostle James warns us that prayer without faith is fruitless: “But let him ask in faith, without doubting” (Epistle of James 1:6-7). In order for our faith to grow, we need to devote time to reading the Bible every day. The Word of God inspires us with examples of love and mutual help.

Brotherly love and sharing in the first church

In the Acts of the Apostles, the life of the first Christian community in Jerusalem is described (Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 4). The believers had one heart and one soul, and no one considered their property their property, but everything was common to them. They sold their estates and brought the proceeds to the feet of the apostles, who distributed them among those in need. This example shows how God’s love works through people’s hearts, moving them to charity. In his life, St. Nicholas embodied exactly this biblical model of selfless love and secret help to others, becoming an instrument of God’s care.

Practice of hesychasm and trust in Divine love

All his life, St. Nicholas combined active charity with deep inner peace (hysychia). Hesychasts advise during prayer to let go of all anxious thoughts about how exactly your problem will be solved, and to be in silence.

God loves each of us infinitely. In Padre Pio’s book “The Diary of Love”, the Lord reminds us that His love is the best talisman for our lives. Saint Padre Pio advised: “Pray, hope and do not worry. Your Heavenly Father hears every request. Entrust Him to the saints who are praying for you.”.

According to the spiritual law of faith (which Neville Goddard wrote about), we should feel joy and gratitude for the solution of our case already during prayer. Imagine that help from St. Nicholas has already arrived, and feel relieved, thanking God for His mercy.

For Thine is the kingdom, and power, and glory, forever. Amen.

O all-beneficial father Nicholas, shepherd and teacher of all who with faith turn to your protection! Hurry soon and free the flock of Christ from the wolves that are destroying it, and protect every Christian land with your holy prayers from diseases, hunger, war and strife. Grant me Your gracious help (state your request) and restore peace to my life. Amen.
